    What is Holistic Wellness?

    December 21, 2020 / No Comments

Have you ever heard of Holistic Wellness? I hadn’t heard of Holistic Wellness until I worked in the Family Medicine department at the University of Oklahoma.  One course medical students can take is called Food as Medicine and it discusses how our body systems are interconnected, and the food we eat affects every system in our body. When we approach food from a systems perspective, we are applying a Holistic Wellness approach to health.  A Holistic Approach to Wellness As I focus on healing (My 2021 Word of the Year), I’m taking a holistic approach to wellness.  Holistic wellness is an approach to being healthy that considers the body, mind…

My 2021 Word of the Year

    December 20, 2020 / No Comments

Do you pick a word of the year?  Instead of choosing a New Year’s Resolution, I pick one word every year to focus on.  This is usually a word I feel that God has laid on my heart to bring growth and maturity in my life, and it’s usually an area in my life that needs to be developed or nurtured so that I become a better person.  By mid-December each year I usually know what my word of the year will be and I spend the end of December thinking about and praying about and meditating on that word in order to focus on how to integrate my word…

10 Things I’ve Learned from a Year in a Pandemic

    December 20, 2020 / No Comments

2020 has been a year for the books!  Living in a pandemic, distance education, transitioning to work at home, learning to wear a mask in public – this year in a pandemic has had such major impacts on all our lives!  My Word of the Year for 2020 was Discipline, and I definitely learned in 2020 that I STILL need more discipline in my life. 2020 actually taught me things in all areas of my life – mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.  This year in a pandemic has touched every single part of me and way I live, and I know I won’t be the same ever again.  Looking back…

The Best Einkorn Challah Bread Recipe EVER!

    November 19, 2020 / No Comments

I love to make bread.  I love the entire process – the mixing, the kneading, the rising, the shaping, and then the delicious smell of baking bread wafting through the entire house!  There’s nothing more delicious than a warm piece of freshly baked bread coated in butter or jam.  I love it! I also love different kinds of breads for different reasons.  My favorite kind of bread is challah, a Jewish Sabbath bread that is typically braided or knotted.  Challah is beautiful to look at, and with a hint of sweetness from honey, it tastes delicious too! If you want to try your hand at making bread, here is my…

The Epic Gift Giving Dilemma Solved – How Many Gifts to Buy Your Kids This Year?

    November 5, 2020 / 2 Comments

How many gifts do you get your kids for the holidays?  Every year, our kids make an extravagant list of things they want (and sometimes need) for the holidays because in our family, we only buy gifts for the kids at Christmas and their birthday (I’ll write a post on why soon, I promise!).  They know they’ve only got a couple times a year to ask for everything they’re wanting, and they certainly take advantage of the holiday season! But how many gifts should you actually buy?  I think it depends on the answers to a few questions, and the answers to these questions can change over time.  Ten years…
