The Epic Gift Giving Dilemma Solved – How Many Gifts to Buy Your Kids This Year?
How many gifts do you get your kids for the holidays? Every year, our kids make an extravagant list of things they want (and sometimes need) for the holidays because in our family, we only buy gifts for the kids at Christmas and their birthday (I’ll write a post on why soon, I promise!). They know they’ve only got a couple times a year to ask for everything they’re wanting, and they certainly take advantage of the holiday season! But how many gifts should you actually buy? I think it depends on the answers to a few questions, and the answers to these questions can change over time. Ten years…
A Travel Tip to Eliminate “Are We There Yet?”
I think the biggest hurdle of taking a road trip as a family is the dreaded “Are we there yet?” spoken in that whining, squirming, tired kid voice that communicates “I am tired of sitting. I’m tired of being in a car. I’m tired of driving. Let me out!!” Before my in-laws moved to Tulsa, we took annual or biannual road trips to visit them in Richmond, VA. It’s a 21 hour drive from Tulsa to Richmond, and while one route is beautiful and scenic with rolling corn fields and forested mountains, the route we used to take was flat soy bean fields and a straight, boring highway. What’s Your Homeschool Style?
Did you know there was such a thing as a homeschool style? Just like different people have different fashion styles, different families have different homeschool styles. Some families like a super structured routine with lots of memorization and repetition. Some families prefer to be more laid back and “unschool.” Do you know what style you want your homeschool to be? When we lived in Alabama, I was surrounded by moms who homeschooled. Almost every stay-at-home mom I knew was also a homeschool mom, and that was mostly because public education in Alabama is very poor. The best two options for education were private school (the popular private schools were the…
